Daresbury Estate up for sale

2

THE Daresbury Estate, near Warrington is up for sale – with a £11.575 million price tag.
It is being marketed either as a single, 938.73 acre site or as eight separate lots.
The estate consists of two large houses, six cottages, a groom’s flat, horse riding facilities, farm buildings, farmland, fields and ancient woodland.
There are also offices converted from farm buildings, said to provide a “significant income”.
The sale comes only five months over earlier rumours that the estate was for sale were denied.
Currently, the estate is also home to the controversial Creamfields music festival and it is understood there is an agreement allowing the festival to continue until 2012. Nearby residents, who have opposed the festival every year since it was moved to Daresbury from Liverpool some three years ago, will be hoping any new owner will end the agreement as soon as possible.
The estate dates back to 1852 when it was the home of Sir Gilbert Greenall – the grandson of the former Greenall Whitley brewery founder.
Current owner Lord Peter Daresbury, resigned as chairman of hotel and leisure company De Vere some four years ago.

  1. I do hope Contessa are looking at this. The setting, and the potential for development of the main house and all the surrounding buildings must surely be far more attractive to them than trying to develop a 5* Boutique Hotel in the middle of a public park. It has a swimming pool and tennis court and riding stable, and plenty of parking space for Rolls-Royces and even helicopters. Think about it, Contessa

  2. If I had so much money available to spend I know which one I’d go for…. and it wouldn’t be the one with the 125 year lease and associated hastle over pubic access etc. If they pulled out on the Walton Hall deal where they have council backing and bought the Daresbury Estate instead would planning permission be granted for change of use from residential/office/agrigultural use into hotel/pubs/spas etc. ‘Sour grapes’ may suddenly become a ‘material planning consideration’. Although I presume it would go through Halton rather than Warrington. Good return on money though with Creamfields and other events etc etc though eh. Maybe Contessa will buy BOTH ! ….and bit by bit return the WHOLE Greenall’s estate back to it’s original entirety…. maybe Contessa already ‘knew’ about the forthcoming estate sale 😉
