Blaze causes traffic delays

TRAFFIC was being held up on the A57 Manchester Road at Warrington this morning after a fire put traffic lights out of action.
The blaze involved a junction box controlling the lights at the junction of Manchester Road and the A50 Kingsway.
It broke out at around 4am.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a dry power extinguisher. But the lights had been put out of action and as traffic built up later this morning there were delays on both Manchester Road, Kingsway and King Edward Street.
Cause of the fire is being investigated by police

  1. Yes and what a fiasco it was. I ravelled up Kingsway North about 2.30pm to find the temporary lights that had been installed were not working correctly.

When i actually reached the junction with Manchester Road a workman from Enterprise turned all the temporary lights off causing further choas. At the sam time two PCSOs arrived in a van and sat there watching the Choas instead of gettting out of their vehicle and doing some Point duty to eleviate the Problem.

  2. Yes it was a bit of a mess made considerably more difficult by some overly cautious drivers who just sat there too scared to cross. The police could have helped out until the temporary lights were set up but it wouldn’t surprise me if the police weren’t allowed to manually control traffic these days because of health and safety rules.

  3. Bill i dont think the Police Officers of today would even know how to control traffic via point duty, they all want to be managers instad of getting to he grass roots of Policing.
