LYMM resident Mary Cottrill raised almost £5,000 for orphaned and abandoned children in under-developed countries by taking part in the London Marathon.
She said: “Against all the odds I managed to complete the London Marathon and, when the going got tough, it was the thought of people’s generosity in donating nearly £5,000 to the charity SOS Childrens’ Villages that really kept me going.”
Mary, 62, a former French teacher and the wife of former Lymm GP Dr Paul Cottrill, had been trying for several years to get a place in the Marathon.
She decided to raise money for SOS Children’s Villages, which builds groups of houses for orphaned and abandoned children all over the world.
The couple had visited several of the villages on their travels and had been impressed with what they saw.
Mary said: “I would like to thank all the locals who contributed.”
