POLICE at Warrington are appealing for information after a 17-year-old girl was punched in the face during a robbery attempt.
The girl was walking along Mill Lane, Lymm on Wednesday (May 12) near to the derelict Railway Arms pub.
She was a man walking in her direction, obviously under the influence of drink or drugs.
He said: “Have you got any money?” and she replied that she had not.
He then said: “Why are you lying?” before trying to snatch her handbag from her arm.
The girl retaliated by slapping him across the face and he punched her in the face before running off in the direction of the derelict pub.
The girl suffered bruising and reddening to her left eye.
Police said the offender was black or very dark skinned, about 5ft 8 inches tall of skinning build and with dark eyes. He was wearing dark clothing and had short, black hair and a slight Nigerian accent. He was constantly clenching his fists and staggering as if intoxicated.
If anyone has any information that might be helpful to police, or recognises the man from the description, police would like to hear from them. They should call DC Mike Evans at Warrington CID on 0845 458 0000 or call the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
