MEMBERS at Lymm Tennis Club are celebrating the installation of new floodlights on three more courts.
The Club now has seven floodlit ourts in total with a choice of playing surface of either carpet or tarmac. This puts Lymm Tennis Club amongst the very best in Cheshire in terms of the floodlit facilities available, a view endorsed by the Barbara Bloor, President of Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association, when she officially switched on the lights.
Already the new lights are proving to be a huge success and not just for senior members of the Club.
Steve Garbutt, Lymm’s Coach said: “Lymm Tennis Club very generously allows children under 8 years old to be coached at the club without incurring a membership charge. This has stimulated a huge growth in that age group within the coaching programme. Approx 100 children who had coaching last summer fall into this category.
“Floodlighting is obviously essential for a year round junior coaching programme. The vast majority of children who play in the summer now play in the winter. The additional floodlights will certainly equate to more opportunities for our junior members and non members.
Over the last 18 months, the club has produced a number of county standard players and currently has some of the best junior players in the county for their age. We are in effect a centre of excellence for Mini Tennis and have a number of players from outside Lymm who are attracted by the club’s programme and facilities.”
The floodlighting was installed by Surfacelux Ltd, a Merseyside lighting specialist, who worked right through the artic winter conditions to ensure the installation was complete on schedule.
