WARRINGTON Borough Council has joined forces with two neighbouring authorities to organise a programme of theatre workshops aimed at members of local music and drama groups.
It is the fifth year the event “A Stage Further” has been held, organised by Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils.
The workshops will be held in Knutsford and Northwich in co-operation with the Cheshire Theatre Guild and the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.
Matthew Hopkins, director of music at Nottingham Trent University and director of Youth Choir UK will lead a session on Working with Voices, to help organisations to make the most of their ensembles.
Associate Director at Theatre by the Lake, Stefan Escreet, will lead a directing workshop to get fresh, well-paced performances in limited rehearsal time.
For those involved behind the scenes there are a series of “hands on” workshops. Judith Croft, freelance designer at venues including the Library Theatre, Manchester and Theatre Clwyd, will lead workshops on set design and costume design.
There will also be beginner and advanced lighting workshops run by Angie Berwick, a freelance theatre technician and technical manager for Black Chair Theatre Company.
The workshops are priced at £20 a day with a £5 discount if an additional workshop is booked.
Further details are available from 01244 972679.

  1. It would be nice if the council (and pyramid and parr hall partnership) supported the drama groups it alreaady has. Such as the two it has running at the pyramid (seperate childrens and adults community theatre). who put on around 4 plays a year, but don’t even get a mention of the show on the pyramids website, or on any of their promotional literature or whats on listings, or any funding for sets or costume and quite often dont even get tickets on sale until the night and if they do quite often with the wrong name of play, day of play, time of play…its disgraceful.

  2. My mum spent over 50 years as a member of the Co-Op amateur dramatic society (CATS) and I remember the coop hall on Winwick Road being bulldozed to make way for a car showroom!!

The shows such as Caberet and Oliver were wonderful productions and all the people were so dedicated. My mum used to love the whole experience and still talks about them now; although she is poorly and unable to walk anymore….

Unfortunately it appears that interest in such groups has waned, however we should support these shows as they give such joy to many people for a modest amount of money so come on Pyramid, get you act together. If what Actor1 says is true; it really is disgraceful not to promote your own groups’ shows

this is the full guide up till november yet I know for a fact that “Acting Up” one of their community theatre groups have a showing of “A witness for the prosicution” in june.

This is their own website so clearly their would be no cost in listing this event and selling tickets.
