College hosts science conference

WARRINGTON’S Priestley College welcomed students from a Manchester Sixth Form College for a day of activities aimed at opening doors to progression in Science and Maths.
The Learner Conference was funded by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service in line with the college’s beacon status and saw the students from both organisations take part in proactive workshops based on the subjects of Applied Energetics and DNA and Forensics.
The College was also able to welcome Dr Guy Sutton to campus, a director at Medical Biology Interactive at The University of Nottingham’s Medical School.
His insight into the world of DNA and forensics was particularly thought provoking and involved giving students an overview of post-mortems, forensic psychology, mentally disordered offenders and offender profiling.
Barbara Schofield, assistant manager for chemistry at Priestley, who led the workshop was more than happy with the way the conference went.
She said: “It was excellent to welcome students from Ashton Sixth Form to campus and allow them to mix in with our own, in order for them all to benefit from a new learning experience.
“It was also a pleasure to welcome Dr Sutton, whose workshop reinforced the feelings of a number of students who wish to move into forensics as part of their future career plans.”
