WARRINGTON people live in one of the safest counties in the North West, according to new Home Office crime statistics.
Police in Cheshire recorded 10 per cent fewer crimes last year compared with the previous year and had the second lowest overall crime figures in the region
Assistant Chief Constable Phil Thompson (pictured) said: “The figures show crime continues to reduce resulting in fewer Cheshire victims of crime. The figures also indicate local people support what we are doing as the figures show local opinions have not changed, with nearly 50 per cent believing we are dealing with the issues that matter to them.
“We work together with other agencies who have responsibility for providing services that enhance community life. We share the values of the communities we police and they assist us by providing information which can help in solving the crimes that matter to them.
“We ask local people to play their part by following advice on how to keep themselves, their businesses, homes and possessions safe.”
Mr Thompson said by working together with the public, businesses, etc, the police could continue to build on the reductions.
Car crime is down 17 per cent and burglary is down a further one per cent.
Fifteen per cent fewer people experienced criminal damage.
He added: “We know we can not stand stil. We are facing challenging times ahead. Difficult decisions will need to be made concerning finances and resources. We believe that by becoming more efficient we can save money without damaging the services we give to the public.
“We are an open and transparent organisation and we encourage local people to take advantage of information on our website that shows month on month how crime impacts on their community and what actions we are taking to address communities problems or crime and anti-social behaviour.”

  1. “The figures also indicate local people support what we are doing “…………… “with nearly 50 per cent believing we are dealing with the issues that matter to them”………… so more than 50% think you aint dealing with issues that matter to them then!?? Of course it is a waste of time phoning the police if you need them to turn up straight away….. of course the figures are down as raven says; because no one biothers to report the small crimes any more because they get little or no response worthy of doing so. Mind you, showing that crime is down must mean that a few more boxes have been ticked by using the pretend bobbies that we seem to have these days
