SEVERE damage was caused to a bungalow at Warrington last night after fire broke out in the living room.
The blaze was at a property in Samuel Street, Sankey Bridges and involved a settee.
No-one was in at the time but a passerby spotted smoke coming from the building and raised the alarm.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze with a hosereel jet and cleared smoke from the property with a ventilation unit.
A firefighter involved in the operation said the cause of the blaze was accidental. Severe smoke damage was caused throughout the property.
