AN innovative event for young people, which combines three-a-side street football with a music festival is being held in Warrington on Friday, April 9.
The event – named Urban U-nite and Street Skillz by the young people themselves – will be at William Beamont High School.
The theme is a 3-a-side football tournament and festival played in small cages. There will be DJ and MC-ing, freestyle football demonstrations and coaching, graffiti art, tag handball and circus skills.
The event is free to enter for anyone aged 5-19 and will take place between 10am and 4pm.
Young volunteers will run the event after undertaking a training day the previous day.
A spokesman said: “The event is themed as a young person centred event and designed for creativity and enjoyment within an informal setting and without the traditional adult dominated model of sport delivery.
“There is widespread support for this concept from a wide variety of partners who have come together to fund and plan the festival.”
It is hoped the event will provide the basis for a re-launched Warrington Community Partnership Friday Night Street League that is currently sponsored by Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
