Town bid for Fowler April Fool

WARRINGTON Town FC’s reported swoop for former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler may have been an “April Fool” but it is a signal of the club’s ambitions moving forward.
Manager Joey Dunn,a staunch Evertonian, was reported to have admired Fowler’s goal scoring credentials, seeing him as the ideal player to help take Warrington on to the next level.
Dunn has already signed former Everton and Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Farrelly who is currently sidelined with a groin injury, with the aim of getting him fully fit during the off season
Meanwhile Fowler, who will be 35 next week, is currently playing for North Queensland Fury in Australia but is currently back home in the UK.
He scored 183 goals for Liverpool and has also played for Leeds, Manchester City, Cardiff and Blackburn.
He has been capped by England 26 times, the last cap being at the 2002 World Cup.
He is exactly the calibre of player Warrington Town would be interested in to help raise the profile of the club moving forward.
Chief Executive Gary Skentelbery said: “Realistically we are still a way off signing someone like Fowler but we do need to start looking at bringing some big names in to help raise the profile of the club.
“While we would struggle to meet the wage demands of someone still in their prime I am sure we could put some kind of package together to entice someone of Fowler’s standing in the not too distant future.”
