TOP tips for Warrington people facing chocolate overload at Easter have been issued.
Child obesity experts from MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!)in Warrington have issued the advice for overweight children and their families.
They say that one in three children in Warrington is currently overweight or obese, and that Easter can be difficult for youngsters trying to manage their problem.
MEND’s Easter hints are designed to equip families with strategies to cope with the temptation to eat too much chocolate.
Programme manager James Howes said: “Easter is a time when chocolate is everywhere, from Easter eggs to chocolate chicks, and for many families it can be a tricky time to control the amount eaten. MEND’s top tips can help families resist eating too much chocolate at this time of year, whilst still having fun.”
Suggestions include a treasure hunt for breakfast by hiding real eggs and later using them for poached eggs on toast, and an egg decoration competition.
The team also suggests buying Easter art and craft sets instead of chocolate,
having an egg and spoon race or filling an Easter basket with tiny toys instead of chocolate.
MEND runs after school programmes for youngsters trying to lose weight and become healthier, with the next one starting in May.
