Hospital gets a makeover

PART of the outpatients department at Warrington Hospital has been given a makeover thanks to the League of Friends.
A £7,200 gift from the charity has provided new lighting and redecoration in five rooms in the Audiology Department.
The rooms also have new air conditioning grates and ceiling tiles that comply with infection control regulations, giving them an airy and bright feel.
Staff in the department provide a comprehensive service for hearing assessments, hearing therapy, digital hearing aids, diagnostic audiology for hearing/balance disorders and tinnitus retraining therapy.
Milly Syres, head of clinical audiology, said: “The lighter rooms have made a huge difference to our staff who spend long periods of time in front of a computer screen programming hearing aids. Our rooms do not have windows, due to where the department is situated, so bright lighting is beneficial.”
A League of Friends spokesperson said: “We were approached by the Audiology Department to help fund the re-decoration of five of their rooms. This was an unusual request for us as we normally provide equipment for patient care.
“But the environment in which patients are treated is just as important and we were more than happy to assist in the refurbishment of the rooms.”

  1. Wel done League of Friends for their fundraising but doesn’t this story just demonstrate how underfunded our hospitals (and schools) really are. Fundraising shouldn’t be used for buildings and maintenance – in fact in an ideal world, there would be no need for fundraising for hospitals. I am Chair of a PTA in south Warrington and we are currently having to support the budget with our fundraising, rather than buying all the extras and luxuries for the children’s education – yet the Government and council will tell us funding has gone up. Don’t think so.
