TWO new members of the Youth Parliament have been elected for Warrington after more than 10,000 young people voted in elections.
Antonia Woods is the new MYP for Warrington North and Melissa Hannon will represent Warrington South at the next Youth Parliament. The new deputies are Ryan Barnes for the north, and Tom Jennings for the south.
Mayor of Warrington Brian Axcell and council deputy leader cllr Keith Bland were on hand to congratulate all the candidates.
Antonia said: “Thanks to everyone who voted. I’ll do my best in my new role as an MYP.” Her deputy Ryan added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to help young people in my area.”
Melissa, new MYP for Warrington South thanked all the people who voted for her and said she will do everything she can to make Warrington a better place.
New Warrington South deputy Tom said: “A big thank you to everyone who voted for me, I’m looking forward to helping give a voice to people my age.”
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “The UK Youth Parliament is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in the democratic process. I have every faith in our new MYPs abilities to represent the borough and wish them every success.”
Existing MYP Jamie Elkaleh said: “Best of luck to both new MYPs. I look forward to working with them over the next 12 months.”
