Memorable cup victory for Wizards

WARRINGTON Wizards had a memorable 28-20 win over the British Army in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 2nd Round at Wilderspool Stadium and their reward is a third round home tie against professional club Swinton Lions.
The 3rd Round game has been confirmed for March 5 at Wilderspool Stadium, kick off 8.00pm.
Admission for the game will be Adults £6, Concessions £3. Tickets will be available in the Warrington Wolves Wolfware shop.
Meanwhile against the army the Wizards went in at half time 14-0 behind but a great second half show saw then snatch a late win in a game that had the large crowd engrossed for it’s entirety.
The comeback was started by substitute Dave Yii who squeezed over in the corner and then loose forward Alan Reddecliff went over for a try that scrum half Warren Ayres goaled but the Army hit back with a converted try to lead by ten points.
Army full back Rob Martin was sin binned eleven minutes from time and the Wizards scored from the subsequent penalty when Reddecliffe crossed for a try again goaled by Ayres and then second row Jono Smith scored our wide to level the scores with three minutes left on the clock. Ayres calmly slotted over the conversion to put the Wizards in front for the first time and then four minutes into injury time captain fantastic Reddecliff went over for his hat trick. Ayres goal sealed a fabulous 28-20 win.
After the game Head Coach Chris Campbell praised his side’s character in coming back from the dead. He said, “That was a great second half from the boys; they knew we hadn’t performed in the first half and wanted to put things straight. They did that and we fully deserved the win in the end. Prop forwards Matt Clarke and Tom Wild were magnificent and Ayres and Reddecliff combined all the time to cause the Army problems.”
