Wolves' fan is one in a million!

WARRINGTON Wolves had a record-breaking home opener against the Harlequins when Mike Deakin became the ‘One Millionth rugby league fan’, passing through the turnstiles at the Halliwell Jones.
To add to the occasion it was the the first time in Super League the Wolves kept the opposition scoreless and Chris Riley became the first to score five tries in a Super League match for Warrington. Local player Riley is a product of the club’s youth system supported by Squadbuilder.
A crowd of 11, 678 fans watched the Wolves beat Harlequins 58-0 exceeding last year’s opening crowd of 7947 and marking a record crowd for a Warrington v Harlequins fixture in Super League.
Wolves Chief Executive Andy Gatcliffe said: “The weekend’s home opener exceeded expectation and we would like to say a massive thank you to all fans who showed their support for the club. Your support grows year on year and we cannot thank you enough. We look forward to seeing all of our loyal fans as well as welcoming many ‘new faces/supporters’ throughout this new season.”
Meanwhile 75 past players gathered pitchside for a minutes applause prior to kick-off in memory of those who have recently passed away; Parry Gordon, Bob Ryan and Terry Lewis. The afternoon also saw John Bevan presented with his Hall of Fame Scroll by the Past Players Association after the match.
The Wolves next home fixture is a local derby against Wigan on Saturday, February 20 kick off 5.30pm.
