High-rise homes plan approved

A MULTI-million plan for high-rise homes overlooking the Mersey at Warrington has been given the green light.
The borough council’s development control committee approved the scheme despite opposition from local residents and councillors.
Developers Persimmon Homes North West were granted permission to build 372 homes – roughly half of them in five storey blocks – on land south of Farrell Street, Howley.
Some 176 of the properties will be in five-storey blocks overlooking the river and five per cent of the homes will be available for social rent.
Opposition to the scheme was mainly linked to the height of the buildings fronting the river.
Howley Residents Association argued that the height of the buildings was “unacceptable”.
There were also objections on the grounds of increased traffic on already overloaded roads and because of a risk of flooding.
