New pot of cash

COMMUNITY groups near a Warrington business park could soon benefit from a new dedicated ‘endowment fund’ which companies based there will pay into.
Companies who are based at MEPC Birchwood Business Park will soon have the option of fundraising for or donating into a dedicated pot of cash which will only be used to help community groups in the Birchwood area, including Locking Stumps, Gorse Covert and Oakwood.
Any money that businesses contribute to the pot will be will be looked after by Warrington Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and matched 100 per cent with cash from the Government.
The new fund is part of the existing Warrington Grassroots Scheme run by Warrington CVS, which provides small government money to local voluntary, community and faith groups right across the town.
Community and voluntary groups from Warrington with an income of £30k or less a year can apply for up to £5k over 3 years. Applications are assessed by an independent local panel and grants are awarded based on the information provided in the application.
It is hoped that the new ‘endowment fund’ for Birchwood will be the first of several set up with help from businesses across Warrington.
Jonathan Walsh, managing director of MEPC Birchwood Park said: “This new fund will allow us to support our local community for the long-term, creating a sustainable scheme that can provide grants to Birchwood causes for many years to come.
“By creating this Fund in partnership with Warrington Grassroots, the Birchwood business community will be able double every we pound raise and double the difference we can make to our community.”
Russ Bowden, chair of The Birchwood Partnership said: “Everyone involved; MEPC Birchwood Park and The Birchwood Partnership are excited about getting involved and supporting the creation of a fund that builds on the good work already in place.
“We will be facilitating a variety of fundraising events and liaising with the companies based on Birchwood Park and the wider Birchwood area to get them on-board to create something positive for the long-term at a time when everything seems uncertain.”
