The Diary of Anne Frank

WARRINGTON-based Centenary Theatre Company is to stage “The Diary of Anne Frank” from February 9-13.
The play – a dramatisation of the famous diary kept by 13-year-old Anne as she and her family hid from the Nazis in Amsterdam in 1942 – was chosen by the company because it will tie in with other events across the world to mark the annual Holocaust Memorial Day, on January 27.
It is also a tribute to Miep Gies, the last member of the group who helped protect the Frank family, who died recently in the Netherlands, aged 100
Anne’s diary of her family’s life in hiding, which ended tragically in betrayal, is one of the most famous records of the Holocaust.
It was rescued by Mrs Gies, who kept it safe until after the war.
The play shows the tensions within the family, the trauma of their confinement, the heartbreak of loss – and the triumph of the spirit.
It will be staged at The Brindley Theatre, Runcorn.
