FIRE broke out at a Warrington hostel when clothes left on top of a cooker caught fire when the appliance was turned on.
Two fire engines attended the scene but the fire was out when they arrived.
The seven residents were evacuated from the building – a women’s refuge – while checks were carried out. An ambulance was called as one woman was suffering from smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were also called to Warrington Market when an automatic fire alarm was activated. One fire engine attended, but there was no sign of any fire.
