Journalism lecture for radio students

RADIO students at the media centre at the Warrington campus of Chester University were given an insight into the legal aspects of radio production and journalism during a lecture by a top regional radio journalist.
John Pickford, head of news at Bauer Radio Manchester, spoke to second year students about the importance of legal compliance within radio production.
David Grimshaw, senior lecturer in radio production, said: “John was a very enlightening speaker. He drew on his own experiences, which were fascinating. He emphasised the responsibilities that broadcasters have and used real examples to illustrate his points.
“It was extremely useful for the students, who are running their own radio programme called The Knowledge as part of their coursework, so they will be able to put into practice all the advice they received from the lecture. The question and answer session that John took after his presentation also proved very popular.”
As well as heading up the news for many commercial stations within the Bauer Group, in the North and the Midlands, John also trains Bauer Group journalists, presenters and producers in law.
David added: “I was very grateful that John was able to give up his valuable time to provide such beneficial advice to our students.”
