Magnificent support for church

ALL Christmas services at a Warrington church badly damaged in an arson attack have to be held in the church hall.
But the vicar, Father Michael Raynor has praised members of his congregation for the “magnificent support” they have given the church since the fire on Friday night.
The blaze at St Andrew’s Church, Orford was reported exclusively by Warrington-Worldwide on Saturday morning.
More than 20 firefighters tackled the blaze and managed to save the main church building. But there was extensive damage in the vestry, with choristor’s robes and other property destroyed.
St Andrew’s Church opened in November 1963 by the Princess Royal and the Bishop of Liverpool. Father Michael said many church members remembered the days before the church opened when services were held in the adjoining church hall.
He said: “We are fortunate to still have the hall for our services. We are having magnificent report from local people and others from further afield.
“We will have to carry out a big clean-up before we can use the church for services again.”
It is understood police were called to the church by a neighbour who heard glass breaking. They realised a fire had been started and alerted the fire service who were quickly on the scene.
A youth is believed to have been seen running away from the scene.
