Radio ham's mast approved

NEIGHBOURS complained that a proposed amateur radio mast in Warrington would be unsightly and interfere with television and other domestic equipment.
They were concerned that the mast, in London Road, Stretton, was not in keeping with the residential area, would be visible above the tree line and would result in a lack of privacy.
Four objections to the 11.6m retractable mast – 5.5m high when lowered – were made to planners. But the application, by Mr James Gatensby, was approved by Warrington’s development control committee.
Members decided the mast, in the rear garden, should be retracted when not in use and removed when no longer required.
Stretton Parish Council also objected because of the visual impact when the mast was raised.
The Radio Society of Great Britain supported the application saying the applicant is licences by Ofcom, that the height will minimise the chances of it affecting neighbours’ electrical apparatus and that it is similar to other systems used by amateurs.
Planners recommended approval saying the mast would not detract from amenities and that the issue of television reception is covered by other legislation.
