Older people badly treated

PEOPLE in Warrington should take responsibility for older people and report cases of abuse, a councillor has claimed
Coun Tudor Pole told a meeting of Stockton Heath Parish Council: “I think people should take responsibility for older people and where they see abuse in old people’s homes etc., they should report it to the authorities.
“We should be the eyes and ears of older people in the community. I do think older people are badly treated in this country. The way we look after older people is atrocious. They are vulnerable and we should look after them.”
Members were discussing a letter from Penketh Parish Council, circulated to all parishes across the borough.
It called for the borough council to take on board the importance of funding services for older people and young people.
Coun Pole said that Penketh could have a point in asking people to look at the situation, as there could be a problem.
Clerk Peter Briggs said he would find out more about why the letter had been sent.
Coun Stephen Taylor said: “We have all got responsibility for the care and concerns of older people. The implication here is that Warrington is not spending enough money – we need to know what evidence they have.”
