A PARTY of senior councillors and officers of Warrington Borough Council is travelling to London on Monday to meet Minister of State for Children Dawn Primarolo.
The visit follows the damning report by Ofsted on Warrington’s services for vulnerable children in care.
Town Hall chiefs are remaining tight-lipped about who is meeting the Minister, but it is understood one councillor in the party will be Sheila Woodyatt, executive member for Children’s Services.
The Ofsted report, which followed two inspections earlier this year, found the authority to be “inadequate” in 15 key areas of services for “looked after” and safeguarding children and only “adequate” in 16 other areas.
In just two areas they were said to be “good” and no area of the service was found to be “outstanding.”
In the meantime, a special meeting of the full council to discuss the issue, will be held on Thursday, December 3 at 6.30pm
This follows a request from Labour’s spokesman on children’s services, Coun Colin Froggatt, supported by four other councillors, for a special meeting.
He says the council leader, Coun Ian Marks, the executive member for children’s services, Coun Sheila Woodyatt and the chief executive, Diana Terris should be “considering their positions.”
