Patients' work to go on show

ORIGINAL artwork created by mental health service users will replace shop-bought prints at the headquarters of the 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Trust in Warrington.
From now on, all paintings and drawings displayed in the offices and corridors at Hollins Park House will have been created by people who access the range of mental health services provided by the Trust.
John Hyland, activities coordinator on Weaver Ward, who worked with many of the people who produced the artwork, said: “Sitting and doing artwork is therapeutic and a great way for people to express themselves. It helps take their mind off things.”
“Some people just come in and watch and others have amazing talent. Being on display really makes people feel valued.”
Simon Barber, chief executive, said: “The shop-bought prints we had before were a bit impersonal, so we thought we would display some of the fantastic art that our service-users have done.
“We’ve had lots of positive comments from visitors who have been really impressed and it’s great to walk round and see such originality. It’s like being in a gallery.”
As well as this, service users and staff have taken part in the national Breakthrough Arts in Mental Health Conference, which showcased art and creative writing nationally. Now, there are plans to display more artwork around the Trust.
