PEOPLE who have an eating disorder will now have access to the latest treatment techniques from a new support service launched in Warrington.
The new community service, based on Sankey Street, hopes to diagnose eating disorders earlier and provide clear pathway of care helping the person to recover more quickly.
The service will be provided by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) and will support both adults and young people from the age of 16 years with eating disorders in the Warrington and Halton areas.
Dr Andrew Davies, local GP and head of NHS Warrington’s Clinical Leadership Team, said: “Access to eating disorder services for local residents has been problematic for a number of years.
“Having such a high quality service available to our patients now is a fantastic development and meets a growing need.”
Dr Jessica Morgan, CWP consultant psychiatrist, said: “It’s estimated that over a million people in the UK have an eating disorder and research shows that prevention and early intervention within the community is highly effective.
“CWP is rated as an ‘excellent’ quality provider by the Care Quality Commission and this service will have access to our wider expertise in the fields of adult and young people’s mental health.”
The Warrington and Halton Eating Disorder service can only be accessed through a GP referral.
