Vandals torch giant bonfire

VANDALS spoiled Guy Fawkes Night fun for some Warrington youngsters when they torched a giant bonfire on waste land off Church Street.
Fire crews were called to the scene as the 16ft high bonfire blazed in the early hours of the morning.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “The bonfire was a big one, properly built on open land well away from any property, so there was no danger.
“But it was completely ruined and whoever built it will be hard pressed to rebuild before Bonfire Night.”
Firefighters used a main jet to extinguish the flames and then stood by in case the fire should flare up again.
