MORE than 80 people received a free winter health check at Warrington’s Gateway centre when health bosses launched the town’s Winter Warm Campaign.
More than 100 people attended the event which featured a free lunch and were able to browse more than 20 information stalls.
Afterwards, NHS Warrington chiefs declared the event – which aimed to encourage people over the age of 55 to stay warm, well and safe this winter – a great success.
Older people, carers, health and social care workers benefited from complimentary taster sessions, market stalls, helpful workshops on the digital switchover and energy saving tips.
A variety of fun activities such as mini-massages, and chair based tap dancing were also available including the opportunity for visitors over 65 to have their seasonal flu vaccine and a winter health and wellbeing check.
Organisations such as Warrington Housing Association, Warrington Disability Partnership and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were on hand to offer advice and promotional materials.
Other partners such as Creative Remedies, who run a free arts on prescription scheme, offered creative activities to improve mental wellbeing. The scheme encouraged event visitors to take part in painting and also gave out information about keeping emotionally well.
Trading Standards stallholder, Jan Williams said: “This event enabled us to continue to offer general Trading Standards advice and further increase the Consumer Alert Network membership. It was also an excellent arena for networking with the many organisations and agencies supporting the launch”
Free Winter Warm calendars complete with a room thermometer were distributed including useful diary dates, reminders on how to remain healthy this winter and telephone numbers/information for organisations including care and repair, housing providers, warm front grant scheme, education and lifestyle services.
