THREE Warrington people have received Good Neighbour Awards for their services to the local community.
Warrington Housing Association presented the awards to residents Margaret Galvin, from St John’s Court in Bruche, Joe Madden from Bostock Street, and Neil Drummond from Milton Grove.
The trio were named the associations’ Good Neighbours of the Year at the fifth annual tenants’ conference and annual meeting at The Gateway.
The award is open to all association residents and each year it encourages residents to nominate one neighbour who stands out and is constantly a good neighbour.
Margaret, 74, lives in retirement housing and her award highlights the sense of community offered by such developments.
She was nominated by neighbours who praised her caring nature and community spirit. She regularly collects shopping, organises afternoon tea and carries out tasks for her other retired neighbours.
She said: “It is nice to be appreciated by your friends and recognised for this. I really enjoy helping others, and more often than not, the best part of my day is having a joke with a neighbour and putting a smile their face.”
Margaret was presented with a cheque by Barbara Nicholls for her services to the community, and demonstrated her caring nature by donating the money to the association’s charity, Cancer Research.
Alan Kemp, association chief executive, said: “The association is committed to recognising and rewarding residents and we are very proud of them for demonstrating continued support of neighbours.”
A record number of residents, 17.9 per cent up on previous years, attended the conference and meeting.
