AN LOCALLY-based firm is helping those concerned about healthy eating by selling organic “vegboxes” about 25 per cent cheaper than supermarket prices.
Riverford Organic, at Arley, has carried out a price comparison and finds that supermarket customers are paying an average of 25.5 per cent more for their organic vegetables than it charges.
A company spokesperson said the most marked saving is for shoppers who get a large weekly vegbox for their family. They will be saving 50 per cent against the supermarket equivalent. – at £16.45 versus an average cost of £24.65 from retailers.
Alan McInnes, who delivers Riverford vegboxes from Stockley Farm throughout Warrington, said: “Customers know they can rely on us to stick to our principles in the downturn, regardless of what is happening elsewhere in retail.
“We continue to grow organic vegetables for their flavour, not their looks, and keep distribution short and direct so we can offer great value. Our aim is to make organic food affordable for all. This price comparison shows that organic doesn’t have to be an expensive luxury.”
