How do you squash yours?

1

WARRINGTON residents are being invited to take part in a “How do you squash yours?” challenge.
Tetra Pak is asking residents to come up with the most original way to squash its empty cartons.
The company estimates that each person in the UK uses around 54 cartons a year and has launched the competition to get people to squash their used cartons before recycling them.
A squashed carton takes about a third of the space in the bring banks at community recycling sites in the town, and the action will help keep more trucks off the road.
The company’s recycling operations manager Fay Dashper said: “Whether sitting on it, flattening it with a space hopper or getting the local rugby team to squash it in a scrum, there are lots of ways that people can squash their empty cartons.
“They can be recycled into envelopes, plasterboard liner, paper carrier bags, broom handles, roof tiles and even garden furniture.”
People are being challenged to film their imaginative ways of flattening their cartons, and post their clips on www.howdoyousquashyours.co.uk. There will be prizes for the winners.

  1. As tetra pac cartons can’t be recycled in our blue bins I don’t bother recycling or squashing them.

I have a great way to squash drinks cans though… if you are good at balancing.

Stand on it with one foot, balance carefully and bend down carefully and tap the side of the can with the edge of a ruler. Is squashes them flat like a can crusher 🙂 🙂 You can get someone else to tap it if you are a wobbly whimp 🙂
