Dog wardens win gold award

DOG wardens in Warrington have won a gold award for their stray dog services, for the second year running.
The borough council team won the accolade as part of the Community Animal Welfare Footprints scheme which aims to reward and promote good practice in animal welfare.
Footprint has three levels – bronze, silver and gold – each level carrying more demanding standards that must be met.
The Warrington team won the category that looks at the policies and procedures that protect stray dog welfare, from the moment they are collected, including kennelling and the swift treatment of injured and sick dogs.
It also looks at the work done to help to reduce straying.
Warrington was rewarded for promoting animal welfare working in partnership with charities such as the Dogs Trust, RSPCA, PDSA and Cheshire Dogs Home. They have organised provision of dog health checks, reduced cost neutering and identity chipping events to promote responsible dog ownership in Warrington.
Coun Alan Litton, the council’s executive member for environment and transport, said: “We are delighted to have received the gold award again this year which reflects the commitment and dedication of our dog wardens to the quality service they provide.”
