Town march on in FA Cup

WARRINGTON Town pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Nantwich in the FA Cup as they marched on into the 2nd qualifying round of the world’s most famous cup competition.

A goal after just four minutes from striker Jimmy McCarthy (pictured right) was enough to beat the team from the Unibond Premier Division in the money spinning competition in front of Town’s largest crowd of the season of more than 200.
Warrington dominated much of the first half and should have been at least two or three up by the break as McCarthy and Chris Gaghan both missed chances to extend the lead.
Although Nantwich improved in the second half they were reduced to 10 men after a straight red card for an alleged use of the elbow.
With four wins from their last five games, all with clean sheets manager Joey Dunn was delighted with the victory.
“We were confident we could win this game and the way we are now winning games and keeping clean sheets is very pleasing,” he said.
“But now we have to get back to concentrating on our league form with big games away at Trafford on Tuesday and then Curzon Ashton at home next Saturday.
“The league is our priority but the cup is a nice distraction.
“The spirit in the camp is very good and the lads all want to play for each other.
“But we are not getting too carried away as there is still a lot of hard work to be done.
“We will enjoy this cup victory and then focus on the league.”
Man of the Match was goal scorer McCarthy who wins an over night stay for two, including evening meal at the Lord Daresbury Hotel, sponsors of the man of the match awards this season.
