DESCENDANTS of a Warrington serviceman who was killed during the First World War are being sought.
Jonathan Burrows, of Heworth, York, is trying to contact any descendants of George Brough, son of Walter and Sarah, late of The Grange, Fearnhead, Warrington.
Private George Brough was killed in action in Belgium in August 1917.
Mr Burrows said: “I have a newspaper report of my Great Uncle, William Burrows’ death, which states he was killed by shell fire with four other men, one of them being George Brough.
“The men are buried side by side in Derry House Cemetery No.2 just outside Wytschaete, Belgium and were all members of the 18th Battalion, The Kings Liverpool Regiment.”
Sadly he has no photographs of William (known as Billy) and he wondered whether family members of Private Brough may have any regimental photographs that may show him.
Anyone who can help can contact him at 17 Oakland Avenue, Stockton Lane, Heworth. York, YO31 1BY, by telephoning him on 01904 345942, or emailing [email protected]
