PLANS to convert part of a well-known fashion store into a hot food take away have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.
The scheme would see one part of the double-fronted Sarah Siddons shop in London Road, Stockton Heath, converted.
There would also be a flue erected at the rear of the premises.
But the existing first-floor retail element of the shop would be retained.
Almost 350 people have lodged objections and there is opposition also from Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Coun Celia Jordan and Coun Sue Dodd are urging members of the borough’s development control committee to visit the site before coming to a decision.
They believe the change of use could have an impact on road safety, could lead to smell problems and that there is insufficient space for a waste storage unit.
There are also concerns about the proximity of a bus stop and the likelihood of litter.
Planning officers, however, are recommending the application by KSJ (UK) Ltd should be approved.
They say there will be no harm to residential amenity and the proposed change of use will have no adverse impact on the character or appearance of London Road. The location of the site within the village centre is consistent with policies which seek to minimise reliance on the use of the private car.
