Wolves fan who will miss the final

LIFELONG Warrington Wolves fan Stu Boyle will miss out on Wembley – because he is on active service in Afghanistan.
Warrant Officer Class 1 Stu, of the Royal Logistics Corps, is currently stationed in Kandahar, in the troubled Helmand Province.
Duties permitting, he hopes to watch or listen to the Carnegie Challenge Cup final on a TV or radio at his base.
But he is backing Wolves to beat Huddersfield Giants – and is gutted that he won’t be there to see it.
Stu, 35, was at Wembley the last time Warrington were there – against arch-rivals Wigan in 1990.
He was thrilled when Wolves swept Wigan aside in the semi-final and had he been at home would have been at the final with his brothers.
Stu is currently employed in the Equipment Capabilites Branch as part of Joint Force Support Task Force Helmand. His role is to ensure the vital progression of critical spares into Theatre.
He said: “I joined the Army in 1993 as a Logistic Specialist after being made redundant. I was a motorcycle mechanic and wanted to do something different. I have a brother Alan in the Mercian Regiment, who is currently on a Pashto interpreter’s course at Beaconsfield.
“Working a 94-hour week in Kandahar is extremely demanding but it’s vital in ensuring our battle winning equipment remains task worthy.”
Hardest bit about being in Afghanistan is being away from his family – wife Helen and sons James, four and one-year-old Callum.
A holiday to Disney World Florida has already been arranged for his return home.
Ex-Boteler High School pupil Stu is still in touch with many of his old mates and knows at least half a dozen school friends who will be making their way to Wembley.
But he will be cheering the Wolves on too – from one of the most dangerous places in the world.
