Cantilever hold-ups to continue

MAINTENANCE work on Warrington’s Cantilever high level bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal is set to continue until September 7 – prolonging the lengthy traffic hold-ups currently frustrating many motorists.
Originally, the work was due to be completed by August 17 and necessitated one-way traffic during the day and complete closure of the carriageway for four nights.
But now the borough council has announced that restrictions on the bridge will continue until September 7 – including two more full closures at night.
Footpaths on the bridge are also affected by the closures.
Signs will be displayed when the bridge is closed and single land traffic during the day will continue to be controlled by traffic lights.
Access is under the control of the contractor.

Hold ups are causing congestion on Kingsway South and on the A50 Knutsford Road, near the swing bridge because of motorists diverting to avoid the high level bridge.
