Major facelift for park

WARRINGTON’S Victoria Park is in line for a major revamp which could make it an important, regional visitor attraction.
The park and surrounding areas have been identified as a priority site for future investment and development in the council’s recently published Greenways and Healthy Living strategy.
Ideas for the waterfront, accommodation and catering, allotments, a neighbourhood hub and centre, recreational areas and ornamental gardens will all be up for discussion as will access and parking, sports facilities and play areas at two upcoming consultation events.
Coun Alan Litton, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for environment and transport said: “Project Victoria Park is a major scheme for the council which will raise the profile of Warrington within the region and nationally.
“Specifically the project will provide opportunity for the redevelopment and further improvement of a unique park and river frontage that would make it an important visitor attraction and recreational facility.”
Residents, regular park users and other stakeholders have a chance to voice their opinions on 11 key project themes and put forward suggestions on Tuesday August 25 at the Victoria Park Arena building – off Knutsford Road A57 – between 3pm and 8pm.
A further consultation event will be held at St Hilda’s Mission, Slater Street, on Thursday September 10, again from 3pm to 8pm.

  1. lets hope they ask the local community as we have no community buildings or meeting hall for the locals to use and i hope this is one of the councils ideas that take years before it is completed like the skate park whice still needs a roof so it can be used all year and not just for a few months each year.
