DENSE black smoke poured into the sky today when fire broke out at the former Pierpoint and Bryant tannery site in Thelwall Lane, Latchford, Warrington.

Fire crews raced to the scene and spent almost two hours extinguishing the blaze.

The building is currently under demolition and it is believed a spark from cutting equipment may have caused the outbreak. No-one was hurt.
