Morley – time to deliver!

WARRINGTON Wolves’ Skipper Adrian Morley says it is now time for the players to deliver after years of under achievement at the club.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final showdown with arch-rivals Wigan, Morley (pictured right with the cup) says the players are aware of the excitement in the town surrounding the game, but are remaining “fully focused” on the task in hand.
“It is fair to say the club has under achieved for many years and now is our chance to deliver for our loyal fans.
“These big games are the reasons we play Rugby League and they don’t come much bigger than a Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan.”
The game has extra spice with plenty of former Wiganers in Warrington’s ranks with full-back Richie Mather, Centre Paul Johnson and Hooker Jon Clarke eager to get one over their former club, with the injured Brian Carney, out for the rest of the season with a broken arm, also still involved in the build up to the game against his former employers.
Head of Coaching Tony Smith has seen “plenty to be positive about” from the last two games, a resounding victory over Salford and a last gasp defeat at his former club Leeds.
He says Chris Riley, who missed out at Leeds, is the “natural choice” to come in for the injured Carney.
“Chris was totally professional about being left out last week and it was one of those very difficult choices I have to make. I am pleased he has got the chance to be back in action.
“Wigan have been pretty good in recent weeks, especially in defence and they have some dangerous players in attack. But we have been pretty good over the last couple of weeks so it makes for an exciting contest.”
With Simon Grix also missing with a shoulder injury Michael Monaghan is likely to revert to half-back alongside Briers.
Meanwhile Matt King will also be back in action after missing the last minute defeat at Leeds with a slight hamstring problem.
Watch out for exclusive video interviews with Morley and Smith later this week in the build up to the big match.

  1. Warrington haven’t delivered the Challenge Cup since 1973-74 so it is long over due! Adrer all the investment in recent years in bringing big name players to the Halliwell Jones it certainly is time to deliver!

Good luck in the semi lads – you are going to need it as I fear Wigan have some of the brightest stars of the future in their ranks!
