Warning over bogus officials

TRADING Standards chiefs at Warrington have sounded an alert over distraction burglars who appear to be targeting the town.
Men posing as water board officials have called at a number of properties on the pretence of needing to check water pressure.
In one instance, a woman allowed the caller into her house and subsequently found a substantial sum of money was missing.
A Trading Standards spokesman said: “Everyone should be on their guard. Use a door chain and ask to see photographic identification of the caller.
“If you have any doubt, call United Utilities on 0845 7462200 to check the caller’s validity.
“Don’t let people into your house unless you are certain you know who they are.”
Residents are being urged to share the advice with friends, relatives and neighbours – particularly the vulnerable.
Anyone who has information which could lead to the culprits being caught should call the police on 0845 040506.
