WARRINGTON Town FC will embark on a ground-breaking trip to Northern Ireland this weekend to play in the inaugural Peace Cup.
The club is being hosted by Lisburn based Crewe United, who forged links with Warrington following the IRA bomb attack on the town in 1993 which claimed the lives of 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Jonathan Ball (pictured right).
Club officials from Crewe United were special guests at Warrington Town’s final home league game of last season when they agreed to host the special event.
A party of 20 players and club officials will fly out out to Ireland on Friday and take part in the Peace Cup match on Saturday evening (August 1st kick off 7pm), returning toWarrington on the Sunday. They will be joined at the event by the Mayor of Warrington Coun Brian Axcell, who will be the town’s ambassador and it is hoped the Peace Cup will become an annual event, with the Irish returning to Warrington next August.
The trip is being supported by The Bridge, a peace group set up in the wake of the Warrington bombing.

Then on Saturday August 8, kick off 12.30pm Town will entertain New Longton FC of Preston, the village team of Warrington Wolves’ Deputy Chairman Steven Broomhead, who has been supportive of Town’s bid to climb the league tables.
