A WELL-placed smoke detector saved a Warrington home from serious damage when fire broke out last night.
The blaze was in the kitchen of a house in Salisbury Street, Howley at about 9pm.
A man and woman were alerted by the smoke alarm and dialled 999. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus were swiftly on the scene and extinguished the blaze with two hosereels before it could spread to other parts of the house.
A ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the property.
A Fire Service spokesman said the smoke detector had prevented a much more serious fire from occurring.
