Beauty spot vision for the future

A VISION statement outlining future management of popular beauty spot Ackers Pit has been approved by Stockton Heath Parish Council.
The document sets out as its aims: “To enhance and protect Ackers Pit by actively managing it as an open water feature bounded by a mixed woodland perimeter, in which native British species are encouraged to predominate.
“In achieving this, we would seek to balance the interests of the residents, visitors and the fishing community, with that of the flora and fauna.”
The statement, drawn up by the Ackers Pit Working Party, says the aim is to provide an accessible and safe environment and also maximise the ecological value of the site.
Membership of the working party includes Stockton Heath Parish Council and Warrington Anglers Association, together with other co-opted members.
The vision statement says site owners Stockton Heath Parish Council will retain overall control of Ackers Pit at all times.
Time scales and responsibilities for tasks at the pit are outlined in the document. It also outlines budgeting plans and future management of the site.
The group is generally to meet every two months and will provide half-yearly reports to the parish council.
Current work to be completed this year includes a notice board, removal of protruding banking near the Mill Lane footpaths and completion of the fishing pegs.
Future tree and bulb planting is also outlined.
