WARRINGTON is to stage the world premiere of a new film – made by teenagers from the town and largely shot in the town.
Titled, “The Scottish Brick Society”, the film is the work of a fledgling production company, Effortless Pictures,
founded by 16-year-old George Miller Atkinson, from Culcheth, last year.
George has directed the film and plays a leading role in it as well.
Others in the cast include Zac Bradley, 15, Liam Mcleod-Eccles, 14, Upile Benjamin, 16, all from Culcheth,
Amy Vinton, 16 and James Frangleton, 16, from Hollins Green and Kadie Gray, 16, from Leigh
The film will be screened at Warrington’s Pyramid Arts Centre on August 15 at 8pm.
George says Effortless Pictures will specialise in feature length sci-fi films aimed at a young audience.
He said: “I hope is will be a promising addition to the creative community of Warrington.”
George describes “The Scottish Brick Society” as an action/surrealistic drama based on the works of
Canadian surreal artist George Grie.
He said: I wanted to create a story in which all the things in his paintings could be developed into a world in which they could be possible, in which the stories within this world would have endless possibilities.”
The film is intended to be a pilot for further productions. It is not a school or college project, and is not based on on
any curricular studies.
The team have had some support and encouragement from Warrington Borough Council’s Arts and Sports Engagement Team.
George believes the fact that a group of young people have been able to get together, independently, and make their own film shows that young people can do anything they want to if they put their mind to it.
