Serial arsonist strikes at flats

POLICE at Warrington are keeping a close watch on a block of flats where a “serial bin arsonist” has struck repeatedly in recent weeks.
The offender struck again at Greenings Court, off Battersby Lane, during the night setting fire to two large, commercial-type bins in a bin compound.
Fire crews turned out and extinguished the blaze which caused no danger to the flats as the bin compound is situated away from the building.
But a Fire Service spokesman said: “The arsonists is progressing – he has set fire to two bins this time. Previously it has been just one. The danger is that he might progress still further.”
Police are now keeping a close watch on the site and have been attending all fire calls to the area to try and gather information.
The Fire spokesman added: “The calls are more of a nuisance than anything but they are serious because they could divert us away from a more serious fire elsewhere.”
