New service for skin complaints

SKIN complaints can be treated closer to home now that a new dermatology service for Warrington has been launched.
Warrington Community Services Unit is now providing high quality treatment for patients with skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis from a community clinic, making it easier for the patient to get their treatment.
People with skin complaints who are registered with a Warrington GP will now be referred to the new service by their doctor when they need expert treatment from a specialist dermatology nurse or doctor.
The service is based in a brand new facility at the Wolves Healthcare Centre and boasts state of the art equipment such as a hi-tech phototherapy booth used for treating psoriasis.
There is also a one-stop-shop clinic for the assessment of skin lesions – which can lead to skin cancer – and the option of same day surgery, helping to alleviate the anxiety patients feel while waiting for surgical treatment.
Lynne Williams, dermatology community services manager said: “We are now able to provide dermatological assessment, treatment, advice and support to suit the needs of our busy patients. Skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema can be serious and very debilitating and we want to help people cope with these chronic skin diseases and make a difference to their quality of life.”
The service also offers an advice line for patients with any concerns or queries about their condition or the care they are receiving.
Patients and the public can access the dermatology web pages at www.warrington-pct.nhs.uk/localnhsservices/dermatology.html which includes helpful information leaflets, self help tips and links to approved skin health websites.
