Sports fan Olive is 100 not out!

A WOMAN who did volunteering work until she was 90, celebrated her 100th birthday in style with family and friends.
Sports fan Olive Cook had two parties, cake, masses of flowers and a card from the Queen to mark her big day.
She celebrated with family and friends, from as far away as London, Durham and Cumbria, at the home of her son Tom at Winwick.
And she also had a party with other residents, staff, family and friends at the Holcroft Grange CLS care home at Jackson Avenue, Culcheth, where she now lives.
When asked by her son what was the recipe for a long life, Olive said: “Just accept what life throws at you and get on with it.”
Olive has two children, Alma, 69, and Tom, 66, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She moved to Warrington from Workington, Cumbria, when she was 94.
After leaving school at 14 she started selling jewellery on markets around the north of England.
She met her late husband Jack in Durham. They started their married life in Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne, before returning to Workington where she worked in a fruit shop.
Olive has worked for and supported many charities over the years, particularly the Red Cross.
She also enjoyed sport and supported Workington FC and Workington Rugby League Club – teams her dad Tom Mounsey was a founder and director of.
Son Tom said: “She is just the same now as she has always been. We are all very proud of her – and she is very happy in the home, everyone is very friendly there.”
