Woman trampled to death is named

THE Warrington woman trampled to death by a herd of cows in the Yorkshire Dales has been named as 49-year-old Liz Crowsley, a veterinary surgeon.
She is believed to have been crushed against a wall as she walked her two dogs along a stretch of the Pennine Way at Gayle, near Hawes.
Police believe the cows – which had young calves with them – may have been panicked by the dogs and that Miss Crowsley may have died while trying to protect the dogs.
The dogs, a spaniel and a collie, were found running free and uninjured near the scene of the tragedy.
Cows are highly protective of new-born calves at this time of year and farmers warn walkers they may attack, especially if a dog is in their field.
Miss Crowsley, a regular walker in the Yorkshire Dales, was dead when a holidaymaker found her around noon on Sunday, shortly after the incident.
A police spokesman said: “She was surrounded by a herd of cows and calves and as a result of the dogs being present, the cattle reacted in an aggressive manner.”
Miss Crowsley practised at the Beech House Veterinary Surgery in Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington.

  1. Tragic that someone who loved and cared for animals should die in such a way. From what I can see and hear you were a valuable member of our community who will be sadly missed.
